Pianist Nafis Umerkulova launched her album Darkness illuminated in an exciting creative collaboration with the young musicians of The Purcell School, conducted by Paul Hoskins.
The concert featured a unique programming approach, combining solo piano and orchestral performance, with Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings and Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto with Clara Schumann's cadenza, alongside piano works by Scriabin and hidden gems of the repertoire by Russian composer Alexei Stanchinsky. Many of Stanchinsky's contemporaries hailed him as a genius, however his premature death at the age of 26, followed by the Russian Revolution, resulted in his name being almost completely forgotten: Stanchinsky, Sonata in E flat minor Scriabin, Etude Op. 8 No. 11 Scriabin, Etude Op. 8 No. 12 Tchaikovsky, Serenade for Strings in C Op. 48 Beethoven, Concerto No. 4 Op. 58 (cadenza by Clara Schumann) https://www.sjss.org.uk/events/darkness-illuminated |
